Overview

In the early 1990s, I wrote an article about the possible dangers of clumping clay kitty litters to cats' health, especially to kittens. Tiger Tribe magazine published the article and both the magazine's editors and I were surprised at the response, including many letters of gratitude.

Many people wrote saying they had had similar health problems with their cats, and when they switched to a safer kitty litter, the problems went away. Cat breeders, cat societies, vets, and humane societies started sharing my article and recommending against using clumping clay kitty litters.

Encouraged by this response, I created this website to host the article so it could reach a wider audience. 30 years later, the website still was receiving 50,000 visitors a month. In 2025, in the process of moving to a more secure site, I experienced a serious health issue, and the site was offline for too long.

I'm changing to a new web host and updating my three websites, CatMom, The Lighthouse Online, and Athena Star Press. For many years, CatMom and The Lighthouse Online shared the same webspace. I'm separating them now.
